How does it work?

It simply takes advantage of the earth's ability to store heat. Water circulating through a loop of pipe buried in the ground draws off this free heat. As the ground temperature water reaches the heat pump, it is absorbed by a low pressure refrigeratant, which then vaporizes. The refrigerant is then compressed, raising its termperature to 160°F. Finally, the heat energy is released via the blower and ductwork throughout your church, school, business or home. In the summer, the flow of the regrigerant is merely reversed so that heat is drawn from the building and released into the ground. GeoSource® Vara 2 Plus®

What do you do to make a great ECONAR GeoSource heat pump based on ColdClimate™ technology better? You make it variable with a two-step compressor driving R-410a refrigerant and use an energy efficient variable speed Electronically Commutated blower Motor (ECM). This could be the best GeoSource heat pump ever!

Two-step scroll compressor: Controls heating or cooling more closely to the building's load. During most of the season, first stage engages operating at peak efficiency, but during cold or hot spells, the second stage engages providing full capacity heating or cooling at the high efficiencies GeoSource heat pumps are known for. Using ColdClimate technology, the Vara 2 Plus' first stage is designed to meet more of the seasons comfort needs providing maximum savings.

R-410A refrigerant: The next generation of refrigerant with no ozone depletion potential and increased energy savings.

ECM motors: The next generation in motor technology provides increased energy efficiency in two ways. First they operate far more efficiently than traditional PSC (Permanent Split Capacitor) motors. Where they really shine is when operated at lower fan speeds. PSC motors can be set to lower speeds but their energy consumption does not drop as fast as fan output. ECM motors realize significant savings as fan output is lowered. Secondly, ECM motors maintain compressor efficiency by increasing fan speed as airflow restrictions occur. By assuring compressor-required airflow, system efficiency and low operating costs are maintained. High energy efficiency, low cost operation, environmentally friendly and comfort, all from one ECONAR GeoSource Vara 2 Plus heat pump.

GeoSource® Vara™

 

The GeoSource Vara is the latest advancement from ECONAR® GeoSystems®. It's blower is equipped with a variable speed Electronically Commutated Motor (ECM). This blower provides perfect comfort throughout the year. It has the ability to be run continuously at a constant low airflow rate.

This gentle air circulation reduces hot and cold spots throughout your home, providing better comfort and actually reduces the need for the heat pump to cycle on and off. Also, by constantly moving air, you will have improved air quality because of the continuous air circulation across the air filter. For some, continuously running the fan and constantly filtering the air improves the lifestyle of those with allergies.

Even better, the blower can do this for only pennies a day. Another benefit of the variable speed blower in the GeoSource Vara is the soft ramping between airflow rates. With a conventional PSC (permanent split capacitor) blower motor, when the blower starts, there is very little time between no airflow and full airflow. This causes uncomfortable cold blasts of air in the winter and hot blasts of air in the summer. With the GeoSource Vara, the blower slowly increases in speed until it is at its desired airflow. This slow increase allows the heat pump to produce warmer air on startup in the winter and cooler, less humid air in the summer.

Hydronic or Radiant Systems

Hydronic systems are used in specialized distribution systems including: radiant floor, cast iron radiators, baseboard hydronic, and fan coils. Typical applications are residential, commercial, and industrial. Other uses are: ice rinks, fish farms, snow melt, car washes, dairy farms or any other application that requires heated or chilled water. ECONAR products that can be used with this type of system include:

 
   

GeoSource® Ultra Hydronic

Safe for the Environment

The GeoSource Ultra utilizes R-410a refrigerant, a chlorine free HFC refrigerant that does not harm the earth's protective ozone layer. Hydronic heating systems have become much more popular in recent years by providing extremely comfortable, concentrated warmth where you want it, without the air movement or noise of a conventional system. When radiant heating comfort is coupled to ECONAR's hydronic heat pump's efficiency, where C.O.P.'s over 5.0 or 6.0 can be achieved you have the ideal heating system.

ECONAR's hydronic heat pump transfers energy from and to the earth-coupled heat source to hydronic heating and cooling heat exchangers with energy efficiencies unachievable by any other means. Our water-to-water heat pumps supply heated or chilled water for use in a wide range of heating and cooling applications. A water/antifreeze solution circulates through the hydronic heat pump, supplying energy to any number or types of external heat exchangers.

Hydronic Side Applications

  • Radiant floor heating. The most popular form of hydronic heat is radiant floor heating. This heating method maintains the heat comfortably near the floor eliminating drafts. Very high efficiencies are achieved by consistently supplying a large floor mass with low temperature heat. Applications range from heating a comfortable cozy family room, heating the whole house, heating your garage or shop, heating a church all the way to heating your large office or commercial warehouse.

  • Fan Coils. Fan coils coupled to the GeoSource® heat pump provide conditioned air to one or more comfort zones. Sizing is based on air temperature and flow rate. These systems can be extremely economic and versatile means of zoned temperature and humidity control for applications such as large homes, office spaces, schools community buildings, libraries, churches and hotels.

  • Other Applications. Many other hydronic applications such as swimming pools, hot tubs, tank heating, base board/finned tube, and radiators are easily sized based on temperature, flow rate, heat dissipation, and add to the numerous possible uses of ECONAR hydronic heat pumps.

Water Heater Systems

 

Water Heaters are used for both residential and commercial applications. Residential applications may include heavy hot water usage such as a whirlpools or hot tubs where there is a need to heat more water than a conventional water heater. Commercial applications include those with extended water usage, such as hospitals, schools, industrial facilities, car washes and laundromats. ECONAR products that can be used with this type of system include:

 
   

GeoSource® Ultra Water Heater

ECONAR® GeoSystems®, the manufacturer of ColdClimate™ GeoSource complete heating and air-conditioning systems, offers a series of domestic water heaters. The Domestic Water Heater can heat more water than the average home uses, at efficiencies reaching 350% and beyond. In fact, with the higher capacity, more hot water becomes available for longer durations at tremendous savings. The Domestic Water Heaters recovery rate is up to 78 GPH, faster recovery means not having to wait for hot water.

Two Sizes Available

There is one Domestic Water Heater for every need. The GD360 is designed for residential applications. It has the ability to heat more water than a conventional water heater, and save you money. For extended water usage such as a whirlpool or hot tub; where water heating bills can get high, there is the GD590. This model will effectively heat all the water needed at 350% plus efficiencies. Hospitals, Schools and Industrial facilities need large amounts of hot water, so our GD590 is perfect for those applications. With large buildings, the savings are very substantial.

Boiler Buddy® Storage Tanks

The Boiler Buddy®, available in 30 and 80 gallon capacities, is designed to increase efficiency in heating systems with low-mass boilers or low-mass radiation.

The Boiler Buddy® tank is a factory insulated and jacketed storage tank, adding mass to the sustem and providine the necessary buffer to prevent short cycling. It also creates a low velocity area in the system, providing air elimination, assisting in the removal of sediment and debris, and acting as a hydraulic separator between required flows from the boiler, providing the multiple flow rates needed for the secondary zones.
